Movies on Tuesday with the Cineclube do Faial in the theater. This week it is the award winning danish animated documentary Flee from director Jonas Poher Rasmussen. “Flee” is not only an animated film. It is an animated documentary that tells a true story, and that in 2022 was nominated for three Oscars: Best Documentary, Best Animated Film and Best International Film. It premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the jury award for World’s Best Documentary.
The film tells the story of Amin, an Afghan man, who has been in asylum in Denmark for 20 years and is about to get married. When confronted with the fact that his fiancé doesn’t know his past, he decides to open up to his friend Jonas Poher Rasmussen and confide in him a memory of his life that had never been told. From then on and over the course of 4 years, the director recreates these conversations in an animated documentary process and signs the directing of “Flee”.
Tickets are on sale at the Mercado Municipal box office and cost 4 euros for a regular ticket, 2 euros for members of the Cineclube and 1 euro for students.
