The next edition of Hand in Hand – Explore Horta will lead to the bunkers of Praia do Almoxarife. The participants will have the opportunity to visit the Casamates of Almoxarife Beach, also known as machine gun nests. These fortifications, built in the 1940’s, had the function of military defense of that area. The Praia do Almoxarife bay, given its characteristics, was an important point of defense for the island. Already in previous centuries there were fortifications there.
