The movie cycle of the Cineclube continues in February with three movies. The movies are screened as usual in the Teatro Faialense, tickets are available at the box office and in the Mercado Municipal.

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

Starting with a great classic by director Luís Buñuel, Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie, the film is a fabulous comedy and a virulent satire on the French bourgeoisie. The movie is in French and Spanish with Portuguese subtitles.

Wolf and Dog

The second movie of the month is the mos recent feature film of the Portuguese director Cláudia Varejão, Lobo e Cão. The film, shot with an amateur cast in the village of Rabo de Peixe, on São Miguel, is “an enchanted ode to the queer community of the island where the twilight glow crosses the immense Atlantic Ocean”. The movie is in Portuguese with English subtitles.

Quo Vadis Aida?

After carnival Quo Vadis Aida? by Jasmila Zbanic. Aida works for the United Nations during the Bosnian War. Although it is a fiction story, the action takes place during the massacre of Srebrenica in July 1995. It premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival and was nominated for the Oscar for Best International Film the same year. The movie is in Bosnian, Serbian, English and Dutch with Portuguese subtitles.
