La Strada
This classic by Frederico Fellini tells the story of the innocent and captivating Gelsomina and the violent Zampanò. This Oscar winning movie reflects on the duality of tenderness and brute force. The movie is in Italian with Portuguese subtitles.
Dogman
The violent and passive duality of human nature is addressed by Matteo Garrone in Dogman. On the outskirts of Rome lives Marcello, a humble man who works in a beauty salon for dogs. Sick of being humiliated by the former boxer Simone, Marcello takes unexpected and fierce revenge. The film was highly acclaimed by critics, winning two awards at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. The movie is in Italian with Portuguese subtitles.
Happy as Lazzaro
Lazzaro is a kind-hearted young peasant who works hard on the lands of the cruel Marquise Alfonsina. The unlikely bond of loyalty that emerges between Lazzaro and Tancredi, the marquise’s son, brings precious revelations to the young farmer. The movie by Alice Rohrwacher is in Italian with Portuguese subtitles.
