The first World Car Free day celebrations were held in 1996 in Reykjavik, Bath and La Rochelle. Nowadays all around the world events are organised to raise awareness about the excessive use of cars as mean of individual transportation. In Horta, the Dia Mundial Sem Carros is celebrated by closing part of Rua Conselheiro Medeiros (between Foto-Jovial and Telegrafo) and transform it for one evening into a pedestrian area. Enjoy the event with a glass of wine at the Cantinho das Provas.
