The movie “The Spoils of the Day” by director James Ivory based on the work of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro, will be screened in the auditorium of the Library of Horta.

First shown in 1993, and with a cast including Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, John Haycraft, Christopher Reeve, James Fox, in this adaptation of the book by Japanese author Kazuo Ishiguro (Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017), James Stevens (Anthony Hopkins) is a butler and Sally (Emma Thompson) a governess of a traditional English family. Between them a friendly relationship develops, at great cost. But James’ relentless sense of responsibility and total dedication to Lord Darlington (James Fox), an aristocrat who is convinced that the world should be ruled by “gentlemen” – even if they are Nazi Germans – has led the butler to reject his own emotions and consequently turn away from the woman he loved. Twenty years later, Stevens realises that his unquestionable faith and dedication to his work, were misapplied and had a severe impact on his personal life. Now he wants to try and make up for lost time…
