April 18 is the International Day for Monuments and Sites, this year dedicated to Heritage and Climate. The Museum of Horta, the Municipality of Horta and the Library of Horta organize on this occasion several events. You can climb the clock tower, visit the Império dos Nobres or explore a bibliographical sample.

Visit of the Clock Tower

On April 18 it will be possible to visit and climb the Clock Tower, including a night climb. The Clock Tower of Horta dates from the early 18th century and was next to the first Church of Horta. On the climb, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the history of this city monument and its surrounding area. Visit of the Império dos Nobres

The Empire of the Noblemen, officially called Empire of Recognition and Beneficence, was founded after the volcanic eruption of 1672 in Praia do Norte and Capelo. Until today, it is the vow of the Municipality of Horta is to organize annually a religious act consisting of a procession, a mass and distribution of alms, in order to mark this natural catastrophe. On the International Day for Monuments and Sites the Império dos Nobres is open to the public.
