The MUMA music in May festival is back to close the 2021-2022 edition. During two days Faial will be the stage for a dozen shows, many of which have never been performed before. MUMA May starts on Friday the 13th at Horta’s Municipal Market with the original show Murmurinho #1: Folcloritmos. Murmurinho is MUMA’s flagship project, a project of artistic creation in community directed by conductor Rui Souza (Dada Garbeck) in collaboration with choreographer Pedro Rosa. In this version #1 (after version zero in 2019) it will feature the participation of the folklore groups from Castelo Branco and Flamengos and the MUMA 2020 artist: the Mexican percussionist Ian Carlo Mendoza. The evening will end at Peter Cafe Sport, with an evening of songs and stories where the Colombian Arianna Casellas will share the stage with Ian Carlo Mendoza.
Saturday begins with a concert for children by Tokingcratch and Dada Garbek at the Centro de Artesanato do Capelo. Followed by Unsafe Space Garden and Oboé com Asas with Tiago Marques from Faial to watch the sunset over Porto Pim bay. New soul in Portuguese by Amaura opens the show in Teatro Faialense. Followed by a concert by percussionists João Pais Filipe and Ian Carlo Mendoza, who will present the results of a week-long residency in Horta. The night ends with Classe Crua, the hip project of Sam The Kid and Beware Jack. From there the party will continue into the night at Barão Palace, with the DJ beats of Puto Márcio, Tia Maria and Príncipe Discos.
The general wristband costs 12€ and can be bought at the box office of Teatro Faialense or in Café Porto Pim. Admission for the Murmurinho show will be 5€ and the admission for Saturday night (Teatro Faialense + Barão Palace) is 10€. The remaining concerts are free.
