If you want to eat out in Faial, obviously the best place is Horta with a number of restaurants offering different types of food. If you are on an excursion, then pick one of the places in the villages. Meanwhile the restaurants of Faial also have a variety of vegetarian options. At lunchtime some of the smaller places around the island offer on weekdays self service buffet options.

Most of the restaurants are open at lunchtime and from 19:00 to 23:00. In the afternoon, the choice is very limited, so don’t be surprised if the doors are closed. Especially during the summer season, it is advised to make a dinner reservation beforehand. Either call in advance or go in person to do the reservation. Calls are usually only answered during opening hours. Always check beforehand if the place is open, some have rest days or do only serve lunch or dinner. If you are into take away, there are some options, too. In the small bars, supermarkets and bakeries you can buy snacks, sandwiches and drinks.
