In the middle of the Atlantic the cultural life is different, but not less rich than on the continent. Through out the year, Faial hosts a number of cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, theater performances, dance productions and more. Every year culminating in the Semana do Mar during the first week of August, when the main road in Horta is closed down and populated with stages, food stalls and of course a lot of visitors. Besides these classical cultural events, there during the summer are numerous small festivities all around the island. Every weekend you can go to another village and enjoy a concert, real folkloric dance performances and for sure some good barbecue with a drink.
